Blake leads Essentium’s technologies team which performs advanced R&D, makes prototype materials, and has a proven track record of commercialization. He is the technical lead for new R&D projects and helps procure private and federal research contracts.
Prior to his role at Essentium, Blake served as a Senior Design Engineer at Caterpillar Inc. where he had design control for multiple hydraulic assemblies. Blake also worked on the team tasked with new materials development including heat-treatments for high-alloy metallics, specialized high-pressure seals and other elastomerics. Blake has also worked for John Deere Power Systems and interned at NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center.
Blake holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Colorado State University and is a PhD candidate in Materials Science and Engineering at Texas A&M University, with a research focus in polymeric nanocomposites. Blake holds one awarded patent with multiple other patents pending, has authored multiple peer-reviewed journal articles and won numerous collegiate entrepreneurship competitions. Along with Essentium’s core team, Blake has authored funded research proposals and contributed to awarded National Science Foundation Small Business Innovation Research grants, generating over $900k in public/private funded research. In his free time, Blake enjoys traveling with his wife, woodworking, mountain biking, golf and skiing.
